Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Winston Milton, commander of the Trelawny Police Division, has sought to reassure residents of the parish that the police are working assiduously to maintain safety. The DSP made the statement at a Heritage Week church service held Sunday at the Stettin New Testament Church of God.
He said that gang warfare was responsible for 31 per cent of the murders committed in the parish last year, and the force is moving fervently to dismantle the six active gangs in communities such as Bounty Hall, Hague Settlement, Bunker’s Hill, Water Lane, and Cornwall Street in Falmouth.
The DSP added that the police have also intensified their focus on drug-related crimes, which he says are responsible for most of the armed robberies and shootings in the parish. He cited Saturday’s illegal birthday party in the community of Hague Settlement as one example where the security forces were forced to shoot out the participants.
In the meantime, he has urged residents of southern Trelawny to support the police’s efforts by furnishing them with information on suspected criminal activities in their areas. “I want to assure you that the police will not rest until the gangs have been dismantled, and I’m imploring residents of the community to assist us by providing vital information to help in this endeavour,” he stated.

Trelawny Courts
Trelawny, a conman and trickster, is known for his cunning nature and ability to perform magic. He joined Dutch van der Linde’s gang several years prior to 1899 and has frequently left and rejoined the group. He is also known to engage in larceny, robbery, smuggling, and other illegal activities. Despite his crooked ways, he has the reputation of being a loyal friend to his gang and is always looking out for himself.
Trelawny’s first appearance in Valentine saw him reporting to Dutch that Sean MacGuire has been captured by Ike Skelding’s bounty hunters. He then leads Arthur and Charles to a farm near Blackwater, where they discover that the town is swarming with Pinkertons and that they cannot enter it to find Sean. Instead, Trelawny distracts two of the bounty hunters and allows Arthur to silently kill them before they leave.
